Why Data Recovery Is Virtually Impossible On Internal Solid State Drives

Get a better understanding of why External Hard Drive Recovery is challenging, so getting it done by a team of professional engineers becomes more important as they safely and accurately do the data retrieval.
Did you know that when your computer deletes a file, it might not really be deleted? Instead, your computer has simply marked the file as unimportant. If your computer marks a file unimportant due to accidental erasure, this can cost local businesses more than £12 billion a year for data recovery and to upgrade security against accidental file deletions. However, this may not be the most frustrating part of accidental file erasure. If a computer marks a file as unimportant, your operating system may rewrite these sectors anytime that it needs more space? However, if there are bits of unused space in an empty sector, this can be as quickly recovered as the amount of time it takes to recover a sector that has been used and overwritten. However, the process works differently with solid-state drives.
Before data can be written in a solid-state drive, a flash memory cell must be cleared. Since new drives are empty, they easily can be written. However, on a full drive, there are written files with bits of deleted files lingering around. Writing to a drive takes longer because the driver writes the information much slower. This also means that the driver naturally slows down over time.
Solving the writing problem and protecting Data
The trim was introduced to solve the problem of a driving being slow to clear sectors, so that new data can be stored. However, a Trim command helps protect data because it makes it almost impossible for data on internal solid-state disk drives to be deleted. This does not apply to External Hard Drive Recovery though. Why doesn't Trim work over USB drives or Fire wire interfaces? The Trim command is not supported on these formats.
This may be good news for businesses, who 58 percent of employees admitted to causing security breaches, no doubt due to accidental data erasure. This means deleted files can be recovered from external hard drives because the files are sitting in memory, waiting to be retrieved. However, this also can mean that these files are as vulnerable as traditional magnetic disk drives, since the data can be recovered and still fall into the wrong hands. The goal is to make sure the safe and complete recovery of your data after it has been lost due to a hardware, software or firmware issue.

Fan Filter Unit Keeps Contaminants Out of Fan Blades and Motor

When a fan is being used in any area, it is going to move the air around. This can stir up the dust in a particular place in the area. A fan filter unit is going to keep all of the contaminants out of the important parts of the fan.
Every motor is going to be built different and be guarded differently. The blades of the fan need to be protected so that they are not getting damaged either. This is something that is going to be extremely important to consider when purchasing the aluminum filter for the fan.
The filter provides many different advantages for every fan. There are guards that are going to be used for each one as well. The filter and guard need to be installed properly so that it is not restricting the cooling abilities of the fan.
The aluminum mesh is going to have several holes in it that are small enough so that large pieces of debris will not get into the fan, but still allows the air to flow freely. Every fan is going to offer something different to the operations of a company.
When choosing a fan for a cabinet, it has to be thought out well. It needs to be able to move enough air to cool it down. It also needs to be able to cool it down enough so that all of the components are able to stay cooled down.
Buying a fan with a filter can ensure that it is going to work properly. There are many things that will have to be tested with each one of them also. There are a lot of different options for all of these things.
Every unit will be a different size. This is something that is going to have to be important to consider too. Everybody will have a different opinion of what is going to work best.
There are many different sizes that will be required for each cabinet. The larger fans are going to move more air than the smaller ones. Everything that is being cooled will have a different amount of dust that is kicked up also.
Every fan filter unit has different features to make note of when purchasing these. These are available in the different styles also. They need to fit the fan that it is going to be used on. There are many things that should be taken into consideration.
Everybody is going to need something different. Not every parts dealer will carry the same sizes and styles. This is why it is important to find a reliable dealer that has many different sizes and styles so that the fan that they are using will need to have.
Without the filter on the fan, it will not last long. This is because the debris will get in it and cause a lot of problems for the fan. Every person that is looking for a fan and filter will have to figure out the reason for getting the best size that will work for them.
Many of the fans are going to come with this mesh filter already attached. If these become plugged up or damaged, they will need to be replaced though. The fan filter unit will keep everything safe.
Choosing the fan filter unit is a good choice for most systems. The electrical cabinet will have a lot of dust, but some machinery that used will have large pieces of debris that will be ejected from the fan. The fans can be expensive to replace for some of the cabinets that require them so using the filter can be a cost savings measure as well.
Guards for the fans as well as filters and cords for them are not always easy to find. Counting on a company that specializes in these will be the best option. There are many different types of filters, guards and cords for fans that many industries will be able to take advantage of. GardTecOnline can help find the solutions to cooling needs throughout many of the industries. Every fan will be different and will need to have something different. It is often difficult to figure out exactly what people need to have though. People who are looking for these products can check out Gard Tec Online at http://www.gardteconline.com for more information.

Migrating From Exchange Server 2010 to Office 365

Age of the Hardware Platform
The most important consideration on when to migrate to Office 365 depends on the age and capacity of the hardware platform on which your email system is operating. If your organization moved to Exchange Server 2010 early, your server hardware is now 5 or 6 years old. This suggests a planned and orderly migration to Office 365 should occur over the next 6 months.
However Exchange Server was still being actively deployed as late as 2014 (especially as part of SBS 2011), so your hardware platform may only be two or three years old. This means it is still covered by the original manufacturer warranty and is still recorded in your financials as an asset. In most cases then, it is probably best to defer your migration to Office 365 until at least 2016.
Expected Growth of Staff Numbers
The above hardware based decision process assumes a reasonably static number of users within your organization. If that is not the case and you are expecting to increase staffing numbers by 10% or more over the coming 12 months, then a move to Office 365 before those numbers increase is recommended. There is no point in spending more money on either hardware capacity nor on CALs (client access licenses).
Do You Have Small Business Server 2011?
If you are running Small Business Server 2011 (SBS 2011), you might actually be able to maximize the return on your capital investment by continuing to run SBS 2011 into 2016. This assumes of course that you are running a Tier 1 brand server (for example HP) that is still covered by the manufacturer's extended warranty and that you also have a Microsoft certified IT support expert monitoring and tuning your system on a regular basis.
Consider Your Office 365 Migration Options
Migrating from Exchange Server 2010 to Office 365 is the right decision for almost every sized business - especially those with less than 200 email users. The real decision is when and how to migrate. As mentioned above, the "when" depends largely on the age and capacity of your hardware as well as the expected growth of your business over the next 12 months. The "how" involves careful consideration on whether it is worth using internal staff to learn and perform a one-off complex project. It may well be that the best way to assure your organization of a successful Office 365 migration is to use the services of a Microsoft Silver Partner that has Office 365 certifications and real-world experience in performing Office 365 migrations.
Darryl McAllister is a Consultant at NetCare365 - http://www.netcare365.com - a company which specializes in taking all the stress out of migrating your email and your data across to Office365.

Using Kanban Tools for Projects and Processes

Process and project management have become increasingly important fields in business. With the advent of new technologies and the requirements of mass production, we can sometimes get ahead of ourselves and start production without actually stopping to think about the processes required to keep up. Luckily, we can use a Kanban tools to help us with this workflow and process planning.
Before deciding on the type of tool that you want to help with your production needs, it is important to know exactly what the word "Kanban" actually means. This is a word that is used to describe a production management process first used in Japan that utilizes "cards" or "indicators" to tell companies when to do something. An example would be a specific number of units being selected as an indicator for when more units need to be produced. When this number of units is reached in inventory, then more units will be produced. This helps to keep inventory levels lower than they have to be and costs down, right in line with other lean manufacturing techniques.
Needless to say, with companies producing millions of units of materials, having this system in place is extremely important, and having a tool to manage this system is even more important. These tools can be linked right to the regular ERP system or any other system that your company uses, and in doing so the system is able to actively monitor where you are in your production cycle.
This is accomplished all through the use of electronic Kanban cards and Kanban tables, which are accessible to all of your team members and any members of management who need to know where you are on your production cycle. When each triggering indicator is hit, the system shows it on the Kanban tables and you will know that you have to start the next part of the process, whether that is further production, ordering of new materials, or the moving of inventory from one storehouse to another. The cards that are used by this software system can be customized to your company's needs, with several easy to read icons and symbols that let you know which task your team will have to do next.
The Kanban board itself can be integrated with your management system. This board features several different columns of information and indicators on how all of the production stages are progressing. This colorful and useful display can also be customized to show only the information that your company finds useful. When you need them, visually pleasing reports on progress can be generated and sent to management so they can understand how your team is doing.
Kanban tools can be some of the most useful software tools for a project manager, production teams, or management in general. They take the lean manufacturing techniques that have been tested for decades and put them into a simple, useful, and visually pleasing display.

Healthcare Software Development and the Recent Trends

Healthcare providers are looking for ways to improve the quality of care and at the same time reduce costs. Technological innovation has led to new forms of healthcare delivery with increased communication and care outcomes.
The healthcare industry has come a long way; from modernization in medical equipment, the industry is now looking to make top-class healthcare services easily available to patients across the world. In order to achieve success, healthcare providers must have the flexibility to adapt highly transformational industry. The changing healthcare business environment requires a process-based approach that integrates with business partners and technology, thereby providing a flexible, dynamic environment.
One of the most plausible ways to achieve success in the healthcare software market is to provide healthcare services to patients over a web browser or a mobile device. Medical apps are revolutionizing the healthcare landscape by seamlessly integrating patients, doctors and world-class facilities into one portal. Simple and user-friendly interfaces reduce the necessity for training, thereby enabling healthcare providers to devote valuable time and resources to delivering excellent patient care. As mobile phone technologies have evolved to handle increasingly complex tasks, a majority of healthcare apps is also being developed with varied functionalities like real time monitoring and high-resolution imaging.
Today, healthcare software development allows people to receive care anytime and from anywhere in the world. Software developers are looking to make healthcare more accessible to patients by developing apps that are intended for direct use.
Another trend that healthcare providers can focus on is the implementation of sensors. Rising healthcare costs have led to healthcare providers to gather the medical data from real time sensors so as to improve the medical decision making process. Creating top-notch algorithms for these sensors and have a visually appealing interface is vital for success.
Health-specific social networks can also help medics deliver quality health-care services to patients. By sharing and collaborating with people suffering from similar health conditions, patients and practitioners can form relations, ask questions and enable patients to play an active role in their personal well being.
Healthcare software development companies need to cater to a variety of business requirements such as interoperability between the different providers, a geographically distributed network, mobile customers, healthcare standards, legal regulations and secure information. With healthcare at their fingertips, patients can now experience better-quality care, in the comfort of their homes. Excel Formula Tips: How To Use The Excel Trim Function

TRIM is a really really useful function to know in Excel and one you should definitely have in your Excel tool kit.
Essentially it will TRIM(!) all spaces from text except any single spaces between words. In other words it will remove trailing spaces and extra spaces from between words or other strings in Excel. To get a bit more detailed, Trim will only remove the ASCII space character (32) from text.
So if you have downloaded or received data from webpages, and you see &nbsp, TRIM will not remove these types of characters.
As usual let's look at the syntax of the formula TRIM and break it down.
=TRIM(TEXT)- the text argument being the text form which you want the spaces removed.
The TEXT argument can contain the actual data enclosed in quotation marks, it can also be a cell reference to the location of the text data in the worksheet.
Let's work through an example for clarity. Enter the following text including the extra spaces into Cell C1 of a n new work sheet.
Please remove these extra characters from Excel
Here is how to use TRIM

  • Click on cell D1 - this is where our formula will sit.
  • Click Formulas Tab
  • Choose Text from the ribbon to open the function drop down list.
  • Click on TRIM in the list to bring up the function's dialog box
  • In the dialog box, click on the Text line
  • Click on cell D1 in the spreadsheet.
  • Click OK.
  • The line of text Remove Extra Spaces in Excel should appear in cell D1 but with only one space between each word.
  • When you click on cell D1 the complete function = TRIM ( D1 ) appears in the formula bar bove the worksheet.

Extra spaces are removed. So when do you think you would use this TRIM function??
I have used it when VLOOKUPs actually look they should work and return the expected value, but sometimes those extra little spaces (which are actually characters as seen by Excel) really can really impact your data analysis. This can result in non matches when you expect matches. Technically it is correct as it is not a match even though sometimes those extra little characters are really hard to spot.
Also, to tidy up inherited, downloaded or imported data I usually run some data cleansing methods over which TRIM is part of usually in combination with the LEN function.

Design Related Flaws Never Let A Mobile Application Attain Success

Hundreds of utility applications and games gets launched every week on different mobile application stores. But only a few receive the appreciation and attention of the users. The reason, why a mobile application does not attain success, is its improper, insufficient marketing and promotion. But, the design related, functional, and operational errors in a mobile application also contribute to its letdown in the market.
Every application designer wants to outline something to cherish by its target users. The developers put their days of efforts in that application to make the concept of the designer and organization live.
Every developed mobile game or application that enters the market has some concepts, objectives, and motives. The utility application should be, proofread by the expert testing developers. Evaluation of an application should, in fact, start from the very first day, its development initiates.
The concept and the design of the application should be mulled over extensively. One should make sure that the design is user-friendly and content of the application is visible and accessible.
When conceptualizing, designing and developing the software, it would be wise to keep your rough papers, freehand designs and notes with you; so that, no important factor or feature gets missed out. The idea is to keep the objectives of the application in mind, during the development phase.
The mistakes that the development team should not attempt:
The developers and owners should never test performance of their own application by themselves. It is a very common picture at the mobile applications development labs. To cut their cost, the developers test out the performance on their own. By doing so, they overlook some of the significant errors, which can possibly irks the end users. It is quite an intricate and baffling affair for one to spot one's errors. The mobile application testing should only be carried out by professional testing developer.
Every aspect of the application should be tested out. Most testers check only the visible and front panel of the application. However, reviewing the front panel is very important and cannot be neglected, but there could also be some processes working as the backbone of an application, like payment gateways, navigation, and loading speed, etc. Functionality of these aspects should also be verified comprehensively. The testing developers and theory writers should work closely to make the application safe and friendly for the end users. Enhancing experience of the end-user is the key to success. Every outbound connection with the application should be experimented and confirmed to be satisfactory.
When an application has design and development related flaws, and faulty unclear interface, chances are there that it will get declined by the end users.

Windows 10: A Sys Admin's Preview

Finally: What businesses have been expecting for over a decade.
In releasing more information about the business side of Windows 10 this week, Microsoft has officially begun to step out of the shadow of its Vista and Windows 8 failures and has begun to seriously address security and business productivity issues that have been plaguing the Windows desktop platform since Microsoft last took a serious stab at them back in 2003.
Take a look at some of the recently announced business-aware features coming to Windows 10: (Link at the bottom)
At every turn I'm seeing concerns we've had for years being reborn in new Windows 10 features such as: (not a complete list)

  • Windows Business Update
  • Domain level program access controls
  • Advanced software provisioning
  • Integrated biometrics authentication support that takes on many of the weaknesses biometrics have suffered over the years
  • Managed domain-wide encryption
  • Information (read document & cut/paste) security controls and auditing features integrating social media concerns; features that used to only come from 3rd party vendors costing tens of thousands of dollars to deploy and maintain. And these span across both desktop and mobile device landscapes.

Over the past ten years, barring there has really been only one success story to come out of Microsoft: The performance and functionality improvements that are a part of its Server 2012 and R2 product. These improvement overshadowed the inexplicable presence of the metro interface within a business server platform and brought a lot of productivity and performance advances that were greatly needed.
Windows Server 2012 R2 was the first major step out of the quagmire created by the failed Vista and 8-8.1 desktop fiascos, and in the workstation arena, nothing Microsoft has attempted since XP has impressed me much until now.
I have never been a cheerleader for Microsoft, even though my career revolves primarily upon repairing maintaining and managing Windows based environments. In the past, Microsoft has tended to take leaps of creative judgment which involve several attempts at forcing business customers to adapt into a retail-only OS architecture; shoving business users into environments that hurt, rather than helped their productivity and function.
I've been reviewing Windows 10 for some time now; taking in the return of the start menu and getting to know the look and feel, and while I still pine away nostalgically for the simple "All programs list" and continue to wonder why the metro interface is still poking it's head into a place (my own opinion) where it doesn't belong, the functional and usability improvements over the Windows 8 series are dramatic. Sure it takes a bit of getting used to, but there is enough of a Windows 7 look and feel to it that I can finally see pushing this out to an enterprise user base without causing massive headaches for everyone involved.
I eagerly await how the actual delivery of these features turns out, but this very well could be the turning point that takes the public scorn of Vista and 8-8.1 out of the public consciousness and replaces it with something business users and managers have been anxiously awaiting over a decade. It looks like this time around Microsoft has shed it's manic need to manipulate its customers into it's own vision of the future and has re-focussed intently upon delivering real added value where it's needed the most: Business users.
Take a look at some of the recently announced business-aware features coming to Windows 10:

Bravo indeed...
As always; just my view from the cheap seats.

Why Is My Computer Running Slow? (And How To Make It Faster)

Thanks to computers and the Internet, organizations and institutions all are moving rapidly towards a paperless working environment. Computers are now being used widely for practically every task including document preparation, communication, assignment preparation, research, shopping, doing business and more.As compared to the past, it is no more a niche or a luxury; it has in fact become a need today. It has become extremely difficult to imagine a life without computers.
Since we use it so often, we must also take care of its maintenance. Unfortunately, many of us don't. Poor PC maintenance leads to slow PC performance and exposes it to the risk of errors like runtime errors, BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) errors, system crashes and system freeze to name a few.
If you think that your PC is not working fast and smoothly like it use to, there can be several reasons behind its slow performance that are all linked to poor PC maintenance.
Top Reasons Why Your System's running Slow
Let's see what the reasons are:
1. Too Many Programs Starting at Boot-up
Sometimes when you install programs on your PC, they are automatically run on your PC when Windows start. This is because they are designed that way. This feature comes in handy if you use that program every time you use your PC, however, if you don't, this can be frustrating as it can waste your memory and slow down the time it takes for the Windows to finish starting up.
So, if you have too many programs that are configured to run automatically on your system, then you should change its configuration settings to ensure fewer programs run.
2. Too Many Programs Installed
If you love to download and install applications on your PC like games and other apps, then it might be one of the reasons for your slow PC performance. Therefore, in this case, you should remove and delete unnecessary programs on your PC.
3. System Infected by Malware
This is a common reason for slow PC performance as it can cause a great deal of damage to your computer. Malware or Spyware are basically malicious programs that stealthily enter your system through downloads or opening websites or emails that contain viruses. They get installed in your system without your knowledge. These malicious programs can damage and corrupt your files, applications and your operating system in no time. So, they must be removed before the damage is done.
4. Registry Issues
Registry is a location in your system where practically all data and activities carried through and on your PC are saved and stored. When this becomes corrupted or bloated, the system starts performing slow and can also result in abrupt shut down. If the issue is not fixed timely it can lead to Blue Screen of death errors too.
To solve this problem, install a registry cleaner that scan and fix any broken or corrupted files.

  • Poor Security Software

Many security programs are bloated with software. They need a lot of system resource and memory. Furthermore, when these heavy programs run on your PC to detect malicious programs, it can reduce the speed of your PC. Only install programs from trusted sources and even then scan them before installation.

  • Hard Disk Fragmentation

Hard disk fragmentation can also slow down your PC. If you've been using the same PC for years, chances are your computer files can get scattered. It leads to fragmentation of files. So when you want to access the files, the system takes time to search through the hard drive for the fragmented pieces of those files. This hence increases the response time. A simple solution would be to run available defragmentation programs and collect your files in the right locations.

  • Page File

Windows Page file is a temporary source of memory that is used by the PC in processing various functions. When the page file is too small, the OS (operating system) does not have enough room to move which results in poor PC performance and open the system to the risk of several types of error codes. To solve this, increase the page file size on your system.

  • Over Heating

If you don't give your PC adequate ventilation space, it tends to heat up. And when this happens, your PC starts to run slowly and eventually the heated parts start to fail. If unchecked for long periods, these components will overheat and stop working.
Always ensure your PC is well ventilated and that nothing is blocking the PC's air vents. Occasionally blow your computer with a can of compressed air to get rid of dust that maybe clogging your system. This might help boost your PC performance.

Network Security Begins With an Acceptable Use Policy!

Most folks seem to understand what a firewall is and why it is so very important. They intuitively understand that they need something between the "trusted" internal computer network and the wild west we call the Internet! The installation of a firewall is generally something all business do, from the wireless network at the local coffee shop, to the medium size law firm and the giant multinational distributed enterprise. The barbarians are at the door, but with a firewall we all feel protected! The largest percentage of cyber security risks, however, do not come through the front door and your firewall will never see them enter. The largest risk to the security of your network comes from the employees and guests allowed, either connected by wire or wireless, to attach to your corporate network.
As a CISCO Certified Security Professional, we do a great deal of work in the area of computer network security. When called on to do a "Security audit", "voice readiness" or "network assessment", the first question we ask executive management is where is your AUP? After all we can tell you what protocols are running around on your network and even which user is consuming the most bandwidth. We can not, however, tell you if they are allowed to use that bandwidth! The creation of an "acceptable use" policy (i.e. AUP) is an essential first step in network security. The AUP communicates to all network users what is supported and what applications are allowed on the network. It describes what is acceptable regarding personal email, blogging, file sharing, web hosting, instant messaging, music and video streaming. It defines what is activity is strictly prohibited on the network and clearly outlines what constitutes "excessive use". The computer network is a valuable corporate asset and as such it needs to be valued, protected and secured.
Does your company have a network access and authentication policy? What is the "password" policy? Do you even need a "password" to use the company network? Can anyone just come in and plug whatever phone, pad or computer device they happen to have into the company network? What is the data storage and retention policy? Do you allow VPN tunnels that extend your company network to a home office or coffee shop? Do you allow your users to connect third party provided equipment to your network? Is it acceptable that Bob just added a hub to his office network connection so he can plug in his own printer? How do we feel if Bob plugs in his own wireless access point? Do we have a "guest" network and do we let those folks know what is acceptable on your network?
What are the legal ramifications and liabilities you are exposed to if you are providing a computer network as part of a lease agreement? Are you liable for damages if your computer network is unavailable or "down for any reason? If Home Land Security shows up because your company's public IP address was traced as originating a terrorist treat, do you have the user agreements in place to mitigate the costs you are about to incur defending your good name and reputation?
Computer network security is more than a firewall. A computer with an Ebola virus, Adware or nefarious RAT (remote access terminal) will infect all computers on your network, threaten your corporate data and render your firewall as useless as a screen door on a submarine. If your company has taken the prudent step of providing a Human Resource or employee manual that spells out the company's position on work force violence, sexual harassment, vacation day accrual and drugs in the workplace, why don't you have a manual that defines the acceptable use of your most vital corporate assess, the computer network?

What Can Be Done to Speed Up My Computer? I Don't Want to Waste Money on New Hardware

As I've said in some of the other articles, there are times that getting new hardware is not a waste of money but a sound investment. Then, there's the rest of the time where you won't benefit that much from new hardware or you can't afford new hardware. What do you do then?
Even new computers can be bogged down fairly quickly. The problem when this happens is that you (the user) are asking increasingly aging hardware to do increasingly new and laborious tasks.
For example, when you upgraded your version of Windows, that's a whole set of code that your hardware wasn't expected to run before. The same is true of that new copy of Office or Photoshop. Antivirus software, though a necessity, also has this problem on a daily basis as the manufacturer of the software adds viruses, spyware, and adware to the list of virus definitions that the software has to protect your computer from. New software increasingly slows computers down.
Thankfully, new software is not nearly the only cause of slowdowns. It is just the most benign appearing because in exchange for the slowdown you get new features. So, what is a computer user who does not want to constantly buy new hardware to do?
Despite the fact that antivirus and anti-spyware programs can slow a computer down, they do not slow it down nearly as much as the viruses and spyware they are meant to protect your computer from. Viruses are the #1 cause of system slowdown. I would estimate that 95% of the computers I have worked on were infected, whether that was the reason the client called me or not. Most users are capable of administering antivirus software, but most are not very good at getting rid of infections. For this, you need a qualified technician.
Many of the programs that you install, especially "free" or "shareware" software programs install other programs, add-ons, or web toolbars as part of their installation process. These usually can be opted out of, but most people just hit the "NEXT" button and leave the boxes on each screen checked, thereby allowing those programs to install. Other programs add themselves to the list of programs that start up every time you turn on your computer. So, while it may seem that you've booted up and opened Microsoft Word only, in fact 10 small programs have started up too. If you're not a power user, you probably need a technician to fix this problem.
Windows has a way of accumulating what can only be described as junk. I once heard a technician say that his job was to "decrapify" customers computers. As crude as it might be, most of our computers can use some cleaning up.
Finally, there are a host of other small things that only a qualified technician knows to do. A good technician will do what he can to speed up the computer but tell the client if it is time for a hardware upgrade.

Windows 10 - All Together Now!

"Imagine All the Devices Living in Peace". OK, so that's not quite how the John Lennon song goes, but it still underscores a major theme of the Windows 10 event in January Microsoft has recognized something that Apple has known for quite a long time... that people use MANY devices. From PC's to tablets to phones to TVs and... as our previous blog post mentioned... it's all connected to the internet. Microsoft has provided a new answer to the age-old question "how do I make this easier for the user?"
The answer is scaling back. Currently, there are three versions of Windows 8 out there with Windows 8.1 for PC's, Windows RT for tablets, and Windows Phone for smartphones. Microsoft's first goal with Windows 10 is to have all of the aforementioned devices running the same type of operation system while improving the integration between the three versions starting with distinction between the PC and tablet.
Microsoft is really making some headway with its Surface tablets. Making gains with Windows 8 though... not so much. However, that does not mean that Windows 8 was a total disaster. Over two years of research, Microsoft has found that people do like Windows 8, but are often ignoring the 'Metro' tablet-like features in favor of a more traditional Windows 7 like environment. Microsoft hopes to guide the hand of the user with a more seamless transition mode between traditional PC's and Tablets. Last year, Microsoft made a major push to expand the market of Office onto as many devices as possible.
Given the pending release of Windows 10, it's no longer foolish to say that this s a prelude for Microsoft's further attempts to make inroads into the corporate IT department. Users may like Apple mobile products and even hang on to a blackberry or two, but an important fact remains about the enterprise computing world, the majority of the professional world runs on Microsoft and not Apple. With Windows 10, Microsoft hopes to leverage this fact to include every facet of the modern IT department from the desk, to the laptop bag, to the pocket. It is not a stretch to see an iteration of Windows Server in the near future that covers corporate mobile device management.
Though Microsoft's ultimate goal is to make Windows 10 the one stop operating system for all devices, they understand that they will have to entice users into actually make the switch. So, to begin Microsoft has incorporated two features in Windows 10 that they hope will catch fire. The first is an expansion of Cortana, Microsoft's answer to Siri. If it runs Windows 10, then Cortana will be there. The second major feature is the next iteration of Internet Explorer that is not IE at all. ' Project Spartan ' as it is currently being called, is Microsoft's attempt at rewriting its classic, and sometimes tiresome, browser experience. Though not too many details have been released the product is being described as having the same goal as Windows 10. That is to say, Spartan hopes to create a browsing experience that can easily translate between the desk, laptop bag, or pocket.
Microsoft is really betting the farm with Windows 10. How big of bet? They are giving it away for free. No, we don't mean just Spartan or Cortana... we mean the WHOLE THING! If you are currently using Windows 7 or 8.1, Microsoft will upgrade you to Windows 10 for free. Some view this as an apology for the shotty Windows 8 release and development, but we see it as something else. We see Windows 10 as Microsoft trying to have its cake and eat it too which is not such a bad thing. Windows 10 is Microsoft's commitment to remain a player in the mobile sphere with Google and Apple while trying to leverage its historic and, as of right now, unchallenged domain as dominant player in the PC market. Microsoft has planted its flag. Now we will see if it can stand up to the winds ahead.

Life Hacks 101: Recover Your Hard Drive Files

No matter how advanced and efficient your hard drive seems to be, hard drive failure is inevitable. Seeing how human beings have become dependent on their hard drives to store their precious information, it is essential to retrieve these files and you can do so in just few simple steps.
Diagnosing
The first thing that you ought to do is to check the state of your hard drive. Is it still functioning? You might be able to save the data on the drive. If you have a second computer at home, you can hook the drive to that computer and try to run it from the second PC. Most of the time, it is perfectly fine and only the OS of the old computer might need a refresh or a reboot.
On the other hand, if your files are not showing up on the other computer and you have tried it with other computers as well, then you might have a problem at hand. Worst case scenario would be ending up on paying professionals to do retrieval of the files with 50-50 percent chances of retrieving the complete files.
Checking
Signs and symptoms that your hard drive might be giving up depends on how you are familiar with your computer's performance. Frequent freezing can be a sign of your hard drive dying. Some applications installed may also contain malware that may damage the drive. There are some software that you can use to check on your drive's performance as well as eliminate any malware that may damage it. Given that it is also sensitive, dust particles may also affect your drive. Remove the outer casing of the tower and any dust particles using cleaning tools specifically designed for computers only.
Determining the Cause of the Crash
Determining why your computer crashed is vital as this would mean that either you can save the drive yourself or that the drive is already busted and any attempt should be done by professionals only. You can download a hard drive recovery software to help you determine how much of the files are recoverable. Some software companies provide free demos of their tools so you can try them out before buying the full product. This would help you in assessing your computer. Once assessment is done, you can try the full software to recover your files.
Do note that it would take several hours or days for files to be recovered depending on the amount that needs to be recovered. Data files might not also be in the exact same condition that you have organized so it might take some time for full recovery. Best case scenario after recovering your files is to do a back up to prevent any losses of your files in the future.

Computer Virus Removal Process That Works

This process will remove all major viruses that you might have downloaded onto your Windows computer.
Step 1 - Downloading & Install
There are two excellent and FREE computer virus removal programs we use. Download and install these programs to your desktop.
* Malwarebytes
* CCleaner
You should not have to pay for these - there is no need to upgrade from the free version that is offered.
Step 2 - Safe Mode
Reboot your computer into safe mode.
For most Windows based systems, you can use F8 to access the Safe Mode menu when you reboot.
How: Go to the start button, select restart. Once the computer/laptop turns off and back on, immediately hit the F8 key over and over again even if the computer starts beeping at you keep pushing the F8 key. It should bring up the menu to ask you if you would like to boot into safe mode.
If this does not work, you can always do a hard reboot - pull power while your computer is on. If you are using a laptop, make sure you pull power and the battery while it is on. This should force you to the Safe Mode menu.
Step 3 - Run Programs & Reboot
Once in Safe Mode, run Malwarebytes and CCleaner. One right after another. If one program doesn't catch the virus, the other program will.
After both programs run in safe mode, reboot your computer and your virus should be removed. It is really that simple - 3 steps!
Now we recommend you remove these programs once your virus is gone. You will always need to download the newest version from the website if you get a virus again.
*Bonus - Free Anti-Virus Program
You can use AVG for a free anti-virus program to hopefully stop you from downloading another virus in the future. It is extremely important you keep your anti-virus program updated often as thousands of new viruses are created each day.
*Tip
You can always create a Guest user account and that will not allow a virus to download on your computer without your permission.
You are the best defense against a virus. Spam emails will not harm you as long as you do not open the link in the emails. Understanding Of Barcode Software Technology

Standing at a grocery counter, all your groceries must definitely have gone through a barcode scanner. The counter person reads the barcode on each product with a barcode scanner after which the resulting data is sent to the computer. The computer, in turn, refers to the database for the price and description of each product.
The principle at work in barcode technology is called Symbology. It encodes alphanumeric characters and symbols, presented in black and white stripes or bars. This technology is one among the AIDC (Automatic Identification and Data Collection) technologies that work to minimize human involvement in areas such as data entry and collection, and thereby also minimize chances of errors and use of time.
The encoding aspect of this technology determines Symbology at its most basic level. It allows the scanner to know when a character starts and ends.
Structure of Barcode: Typically, a barcode comprises:
• Quiet Zone: Also known as the Clear Area, this zone comes before the Start Character of a barcode symbol. It is the least space needed for barcode scanning. It should be free of all printing and have the same color and reflect the same colors as the background of the barcode symbol. It should also be 10 times in width of the narrowest element in the specific barcode, amounting to 0.25 inch.
• Start Code: This indicates the beginning of the barcode to the scanner. It comprises special barcode characters. These characters are stripped-off and not sent to the host.
• Data: This refers to the actual data stored by the barcode.
• Check Digit: This is a mathematical sum that verifies the accuracy of all other elements of the barcode. It is identified as the extra digit at the end of the barcode which confirms that the scanner read the barcode accurately. It is stripped off from the data and not sent to the host.
• Stop Code: This indicates to the scanner where the barcode ends. They are not sent to the host but are stripped off.
• Trailing Quiet Zone: After the Stop Character, this is another clear space without any printing.
How it works: The scanning head emits LED light onto the barcode. Light is then reflected back away from the barcode into a photoelectric cell or a light-detecting electronic component. White parts of the barcode reflect the maximum light whereas black areas reflect the least.
As the scanner moves over the barcode, the photoelectric cell emits a pattern of on-off pulses corresponding to the code's black and white stripes. The electronic circuit that forms part of the scanner converts these pulses into zeros and ones. These digits are then sent to the computer attached to the scanner which detects the code.
Applications of barcode technology: At stores, barcode technology can provide a variety of benefits, such as:
• Items that fly off the shelves are quickly identified and reordered.
• Items that are slow to sell can be identified so that they are not reordered.

• Fast-moving items can be given more space on the shelves, depending on their performance.
• Seasonal fluctuations can be predicted using historical data.
• Items can be repriced to show the earlier and new prices.
• Profiling of individual shoppers is also possible through discount cards registration.
• Barcodes are also useful in logistics and supply chain management. When a parcel is to be shipped, it is given a Unique Identifying Number (UID). The database links the UID to specific information about the parcel, such as its order number, date of packing, destination, quantity packed, etc. This information can be sent through the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) to the retailer so that he has this information before the parcel arrives.
• Shipments sent to a Distribution Center (DC) are tracked before they can be forwarded. At its final destination, the UID is scanned so that specific store knows the contents of the parcel, its cost, etc.

7 Features To Consider When Buying a Laptop

How many hours a day do you spend on the computer?
Probably plenty.
And that means that you spend hours a day staring at a screen.
That means that the resolution of that screen matters. Screen resolution can be described as the number of pixels making up a display. The more pixels on the display, the higher the resolution. Higher resolutions have all kinds of advantages, namely:
So your computer is on the fritz, eh? 10 years old, full of viruses, slower than molasses in January, and you're lucky if it even turns on? Yes. Might be time for a new machine.
So, you go to the store? And what do you see? About 50 different laptops, all different in size, form factors, price, and brand.
How do you choose one? Follow this handy guide to figure it out.
Size - When it comes to laptops, you can buy them in several different sizes. The smallest laptops come in at only 10.6" and the largest laptops can be over 20" in screen size! Obviously, if you travel a lot, or plan to move your laptop around, a smaller size is more convenient. If you plan to use your laptop primarily in your home or on a desk, a larger laptop might be a better choice.
Weight - Tied into size, obviously, the larger the laptop, the more it is going to weigh, as a general rule. Again, if you're traveling with it, a lighter laptop is the much better option - it's easier to take in and out of a bag, and puts less of a burden on your back. They also tend to cost a little more. Heavier laptops are cheaper, but a bigger pain in the butt to move!
Processor - This is the brain of your computer. Picking a good one is essential to your computer experience. The better the processor, the more you can do with your computer now, and in the future. There are two primary processor brands on the market - Intel and AMD. Intel tends to receive the better ratings across the board, using less energy and performing calculations more quickly and more intelligently than the competition. AMD is good bang for your buck. If you're looking at Intel Processors, stick with their I-Series, I3, I5, and I7. If you're purchasing an AMD, try to aim for either their A6, A8, or FX processors.
RAM - If your processor is the brain, the RAM is it's desk space. The more RAM you have, the more programs you can have open and running on your computer, and the larger those programs can be. When buying a new laptop, try to aim for at least 4GB of RAM, if not 8GB.
Hard Drive - This is where you store your stuff. Documents, movies, and pictures all sit here. So do game files, program files, and music files. The larger your hard drive, the more stuff you can store. There are two kinds of hard drives on the market - HDD's, which are mechanical spinning disks, and SSD's, which are slim, light computer chips. HDD's offer more storage for a lower price, but are slower, SSD's are faster and less susceptible to damage but cost more and offer less storage for the money.
Screen Resolution - In an earlier post, I mentioned screen resolution and it's importance. Basically, laptops come with one of three kinds of screens, High Definition, Full HD, or Ultra HD. The higher your screen resolution, the better your picture - simple as that. Take in to account how often you're going to be looking at your screen each day. The more hours you spend on your PC, and the more you use it for, the better the screen you should splurge for.
Optical Drive - Something to consider when PC shopping nowadays is whether the computer has an optical drive or doesn't. Most PC's nowadays are foregoing the feature in order to create more room for batteries or other components. Furthermore, smaller, thinner laptops just don't have the space for them. Consider whether you actually need an optical drive, and don't be surprised if you have to make sacrifices on other preferences to get one on your new laptop.

How to Become an iPhone App Developer?

Applications have become a huge success. Over the years, companies and private individuals have developed applications to meet their target audience's needs. These range from a variety of games to useful tools and companies also use them to promote their business and help their customers find the products or services they are looking for.
There is a demand for iPhone app developers throughout the world, but it's not something you can learn how to do overnight. It is a detailed process with a host of rules and regulations which must be met. As a company, you are better off finding an experienced iPhone app developer to help you, but if you are looking at becoming a developer, then you can, within a few detailed and patient steps.
The first thing you are going to need is an Intel based company. You will use the computer as a powerful tool to help you develop your app and then market it to your audience.
You will then have to download the software development kit. This kit is available free of charge from Apple and includes a host of useful tools which can help you become a great iPhone app developer.
The kit includes iPhone simulations, testing analysers and so much more, which you will find exceptionally useful as you work your way through your app and then put it through a variety of tests to ensure it works. Remember people aren't going to use or buy an app which doesn't offer results. You need to get good reviews on the app store in order for your game or application to become a success.
You will have to take the time to learn Objective C, which is the programming language used by Apple. You may take some time getting used to this version of C language. But once you get the hang of it, it is really easy to use. The good news is that at this point you are half way to being ready to develop your very first application and making it available to your audience to see how it does.
Practice with the language for a while. Put yourself through the paces and see how you get on. Once you feel comfortable that you can work with the language and you have some idea of how it works and what you need to do, then you can sign up as a developer on the Apple site.
Apple will require that you agree to the terms and conditions, which you must read through in detail to ensure you understand what is expected of you as an iPhone app developer.
The next step once you are accepted as an iPhone app developer is to start designing your app. It's worthwhile designing an app for yourself first before taking on any projects from clients. This is your testing phase to ensure you can produce a high quality app that will appeal to your audience, sell in the store and help you make a profit.
Once you app is completed you will need to submit it to Apple. Ensure you tick all the boxes in terms of what you need to submit with the zip file. Usually you will need to include a clear description of the app and what it is used for. You will also need to include a small and large icon to help customers identify your app and you will need to add some screenshots.
Once your app starts selling you can make adaptations and start marketing to see if it sells in the store.
